New York New York part one
2010 June 09After a bit of a time I’m back.
This time with bunch of pics from New York.
Since it’s realy a bunch, I’m dividing it into two parts.
This is the first one, the second should come up in few weeks.
Enjoy!
We were flying from Riga.
Had to come to Riga’s airport in the evening and to leave in the morning.
The still-life we found just in front of the entrance.
In front of this entrance.
We found an area covered in wood and decided to rest there a bit.
Martynas – the perfect example of beeing able to sleep wherever he wants.
Me and my sis we are not so good at sleeping in some strange places, so we took a look at the airport from outside.
(f2, 1/4th iso 100 I think)
The dawn in the airport.
Feeling a bit strange already.
But just a bit. Yet.
On the way to Kiev.
Ignas was the guy from LT flying with us to N.Y.
And even to the same exhibition centre as we did.
Kiev.
The weather outside was so damn summerish and we had to stay inside that strange building.
So, we went to the bar.
That time was really dizzy.
In the plain.
Finally.
It took 12 hours to go to N.Y. (because of the Iceland ash cloud we had to go from Kiev through Norway, Greenland and Canada).
And 10 of these hours was daytime.
This sleep lack allmost killed me.
New York!
I allmost do not remember taking this one – in more than 36 hours I had less than 3 hours of sleep.
After a strange sleep we went out.
Up was the direction we were looking at.
All that town is so damn black and white.
So black and white and so fond of helvetica.
The map is the thing you have to have in the place you don’t know.
Sometimes it’s the problem to understand that thing.
Mind Martynas’ smart face.
It’s still smart.
All three I shot in the sequence it is shown.
Somehow I like this crop illusion that appears looking in all of them.
People looking at Ground Zero.
To tell the trouth only when I saw that place I understood what actually happened there.
That’s the place we went afterwards.
Chinese guy hiding his face.
A bit different surroundings here.
We were still looking up.
Again a tribute to helvetica.
We were living on west 92nd so, had perfect surroundings.
A view from the terrace.
And then we took a walk.
It was really strange to see all the things we used to see in the movies.
Cabs and water towers.
What a tourists.
Lincoln square.
The girls trying to take some pics of fountain.
Do not remember if they succeeded.
This one is about the traffic-light and still about looking up.
Shortly entered the central park.
What a light!
It’s America, man.
Never saw that kind of light anywhere else.
It looked like that truck was put on the stage.
That’s a busy town New York.
Came home shortly.
Martynas exploring the roof.
That was a really cool place we stayed at.
Thanks, Monica!
It’s Williamsburg.
These girls really enjoy synchro shooting.
Found a place to eat.
The evening light was so soft there.
A bit different place compared to Manhattan a?
That was the main thing I really loved about New York – you for sure will find a place you like.
Cheers!
We changed the bar.
The note on the doors tells everything.
It became our favorite place.
The aim to go to N.Y. was to participate at Designboom mart.
It took place during ICFF at Jacob K. Javits Convention Centre.
Beautiful building.
And also so black and white.
Martynas and John – the funny guy – testing some paper furniture.
Leaving the center.
Decided to have some meal.
Do not know the story – just turn around and saw this.
This one is about contrast.
Kodak plus x btw – best film I’ve ever tried.
In the bus.
Martynas - the face man.
John – the face man to.
Steve – the painter.
Since he’s native NewYorker he’s the guide.
Where else could you get that type of sunlight?
Cheking out the Steve’s portfolio.
You can view it here.
Later that night.
I’m curious how long does it take to read all that information.
The other day on the way to the mart.
Lunch.
If I remember it right, the place was called blind pig.
In Tribeca.
Were browsing for some place to spend evening.
Were thinking about visiting this place but somehow it did not work out.
Then we came home and found bbq party there.
Monica – the hospitable hostess.
Going somewhere.
Martynas making fun of us taking pictures all the time.
Cool place in Williamsburg.
On the way home on w92nd.
In the bus.
I already wrote, that when it’s written not to do something it is the sign, that people like to do that.
The place where the girls were drinking refill coffee for three hours.
MoMA yard.
Visitet the exhibition of Henri Cartier-Bresson.
MoMA yard again.
On 5th avenue.
‘Open to the public’ made me laugh.
The angry twins.
All these parking places are enlighted as they would like to sell all the cars inside.
The end of the part one.
Hope you liked it.
Wait for the second one;)
Cheers!
